Divé maky – The Chance For Romany Talents From Entire Slovakia
The project was founded based
on previous experience with working with
Romany children and parents within
the Divé maky program. It became
clear to us that long-term and systematic work is one of the most effective
roads to increasing the standard of living and bringing education to the
socially disadvantaged and marginalized Romany population.
In this project we shall
work intensely with 100 selected talented
children from the Romany settlement in Jarovnice. After a year or work and
professional guidance in areas where those children demonstrate talent and the
interest in self-improvement, 20 to 30 of them will have the chance to enrol
into the individual donorship program of Divé maky and win scholarship to
develop their talent and education.
Under the project we are also preparing activities for parents of the children
involved and for the entire Jarovnice community. Over the whole year of
2010 there will be
a local fieldwork team consisting of a Local Coordinator,
5 local tutors, 5 educators and artists. A tutor is a field social worker
who supervises children entrusted to him or her, and assists them with school
and project activities, consults them in case of problems and seeks
solutions.
Every tutor shall be responsible for a group of 20 children and help them with
talent and education development, and at the same time actively cooperate with
their families. Local tutors will be professionally supervised by two tutor
supervisors who have been professional tutors with the Divé maky program since
2006.
The team of five local educators and artists shall be in charge with
development of talent and education in children enrolled over the entire period
of implementing the project. The children can look forwards to interesting
workshops with interesting artists who shall show them a new dimension of
working with their talent. The entire local team is supervised by a Local
Coordinator who coordinates all project activities in Jarovnice and at the same
time informs the project team about all activities of the project and the
progress achieved by the children enrolled.
